SOLIHULL SELF DEFENCE offers you the self-defence training to feel confident living in today’s society. The weekly classes, run Graham Stoneman, helps you to develop the strong mind-set needed when faced with an aggressor. And, helped with a team of four other highly qualified ssd instructors, you will receive the best self-protection training possible. European Director of FAST Defence Dik Chance was one of the men behind the establishment of FAST ten years ago. “FAST stands for Fear Adrenal Stress Training and it as a world-renowned method for dealing with the reality of the sometimes dangerous situations you might find yourself in,” Dik said. “Emotional attacks can happen in all different aspects of your life, including from your friends, family, co-workers or strangers. “FAST helps you to feel what it is like to be in conflict and helps you learn how to control your adrenal reaction to handle difficult situations better.” This is why In our children’s and adults classes 60% off what we teach is Fast defence. FAST works for anyone from civilians to security professionals.

Graham has been running SOLIHULL SELF DEFENCE for seven years and has a 27-year wealth of experience in the martial arts and self protection field.

“Our classes help people develop a good awareness of people and their surroundings and improve their levels of self-belief and confidence,” Graham said. “I have had people coming through our club who have never done any form of martial arts before, and in just a short amount of time the transformation in their character has been phenominal. “We teach them how to defend themselves by using their voice as well as physically in a fun and enjoyable environment.” Graham stressed that you do not need to be practiced in any form of martial arts in order to get the most out of his classes. He said that people of any age, fitness or ability are welcome to train, adding: “I try and make the classes fun and enjoyable and they are run in a very friendly environment. “Everyone is welcome to come down whenever they want and train with us, with absolutely no pressure on them at all. “We teach people how to defend themselves before, during and after a fight - but also tell them that they do not have to fight at all, and that it is better to avoid a potential situation if possible.”

Is Solihull Self Defence just another form of martial arts? SOLIHULL SELF DEFENCE tries to distance itself from martial arts in that it is more about learning how to deal with aggressive flare-ups using assertive techniques as opposed to teaching a set of fighting moves. Dik Chance, European Director of FAST Defence, said: “FAST is different to martial arts in practically every way. “In martial arts students have to learn a lot of different techniques. But in FAST we show people what it is like to be in a potentially dangerous situation and train them how to react to it. “You certainly do not need to be a martial artist to get the most out of what we can offer you.” And Chief Instructor Graham Stoneman, who is practiced in Aikido, Krav Maga and Judo - amongst others, said: “At SOLIHULL SELF DEFENCE there is no punching to air. And we do not teach people how to spar. “We teach people how to fight for their lives and to escape from their aggressor.”

What would I get out of attending Solihull Self Defence? The majority of people who attend, or have attended, SOLIHULL SELF DEFENCE say that their level of self-confidence has shot through the roof after benefiting from training. Sophie, 18, said that after two-and-a-half years of being the victim of cyber bullying, her confidence was at rock bottom. But after a series of sessions under the tuition of Graham Stoneman, she said that she felt happier and more assertive than ever before. “A few weeks ago I came face-to-face with one of the girls who had bullied me online,” she said, “and she started shouting at me. “But through what I had learned, I realised I was controlling the situation calmly, and was coming across as quite strong until the bully stood down.” Fiona, 21, similarly said that she often had felt anxious walking on the streets until Graham’s classes restored her self-confidence. “Coming to these classes made me realise that if you face your fears, they are never quite as bad as you think,” she said. “If people want to learn how to be more assertive and confident on the streets, this is the place to come.” European Director of FAST Defence Dik Chance, who spent 25 years working in the UK Ministry of Defence, said one woman had credited learning FAST self-protection with saving her life. “One disabled lady was having a shower when an intruder broke into her house and attacked her,” he said. “She had been to only one training seminar of ours yet she remembered what we had taught her and she knocked the guy out. “She managed to call the police who arrested the attacker for attempted rape. “She said that the training she received from FAST ultimately saved her life.”

So should you come to Solihull Self Defence? What are you waiting for? If you want to feel more able to protect yourself on the streets, this is the class to attend. Graham Stoneman draws on many years of martial arts experience to give you the best self-protection advice and training available. He also is joined by four other highly trained ssd instructors, including close protection operative Gary Anderson and Alex Pirie, a former member of the armies Royal Green Jackets. Dik Chance said: “Graham is one of the most inventive instructors in the entire world who always makes sure his students get the most out of their training, whatever their age, level of fitness or ability. “He has the ability to take the training material we show him and teach them in cutting-edge ways to suit his students' needs. Solihull Self Defence is one of the very best self-defence classes in the world, and it is held in a very comfortable environment, suitable for everyone.”
